Inadequate riboflavin, caused by insufficient dietary intake or poor absorption in the digestive tract, may be associated with rosacea. One study found that Demodex folliculorum mites, which are normally found on the skin but more in larger numbers on the skin of rosacea patients, are more likely to affect the skin of animals in riboflavin. An increased number of mites may cause blockage of the pores from inflammation or may allow for the growth of bacteria on the skin.

Azelaic acid cream is derived from wheat, rye and barley. It appears to have antimicrobial action that slows the growth of skin bacteria and appears to be effective at reducing skin redness and papules and pustules associated with rosacea.
HOWEVER.. keep in mind: It is unknown exactly why antibiotics work against rosacea, but it is widely believed that it is due to their anti-inflammatory properties, rather than their bacteria-fighting capabilities. Normal skin surface bacteria are affected by antibiotics and their role is still being investigated or it appeares so. Thus, the cream mentioned above is not an antibiotic and if that cream does not work, you may have to get prescription medicine…antibiotics, that is.. and that is from the doctor. Subtype 3 Phymatous rosacea Phymatous rosacea includes thickening skin, irregular surface nodularities, and enlargement. The term rhinophyma is used when these signs occur on the nose. Rhinophyma is the most common presentation, but phymatous rosacea may occur in other locations, including the chin, forehead, cheeks, and ears. The disease begins with persistent erythema. Telangiectasias and or prominent vessels appear and may become extensive. Papules and pustules form and the disease becomes chronic. Dermal infiltrates accumulate into nodular masses. Rhinophyma represents a severe complication of rosacea.
