When becoming a cosmetologist does where you attend school really matter? Or what?

Question by Mrs!: When becoming a cosmetologist does where you attend school really matter? Or what?
Or are all beauty schools treated and thought of the same, as long as you passed the board and have a license to cut hair. I have been looking into schools and an Aveda schools costs almost 15,000 dollars…and another great rated school in my home area will only cost me 6,000. 15,000 seems like to much to attend cosmetology school to me. Any thoughts, ideas, personal experiences would be great…

thanks!

I went to a school that cost 3,000 it was in 1996, but it was the cheapest in my area and I was taught very well and I have a very big clientele. You learn more when you get on the job so I don’t think it really matters.Hope this helps Good luck

What do you think? Answer below!

I’m also planning on attending cosmetoloy school also. I think it does matter because if you go to a 15,000 school, you’ll probably have better teachers and therefore you will know how to do hair better. If you go to a 6,000 school maybe the teachers won’t be as good so you won’t be as good. That’s just my opinion. I might be totally wrong about all of this.

Im not really sure but i would think that it does matter what school you go to. What place would want to hire someone that is coming from a hole in the wall school?! I would say that the cost of the school doesnt matter much just make sure you look into all of your options and find out which one is the best.

i went to a very old fashioned cosmetology school. It was very inexpensive, but I had good teachers. The main thing they focused on was how to pass the state board exam.

I did an externship while I was in school ( I worked at a salon on the weekends to get hours and credits) Find out what the regulations are for your state. I learned more being in the salon on the weekends than I did while in school.

After I got out of school, I assisted the owner of an upscale salon for about a year and a half. I was willing to work hard, and she took me under her wing. She didn’t care that I went to Brand X school. She taught me soooooo much, and that’s where I learned most of my stuffs. I have my own chair in her salon now, and I’m building up my clentele.

I don’t think it really matters where you go to school. It’s up to you though.

No it dosen’t matter…Every Cosmetology schools teach the same thing, The basics to pass boards. The only difference is the way schools teach, Every person/school has a different way of teaching them to you.
